Third Meeting of the World Refugee Council

November 12, 2017 | 3:00 PM | Berlin, Germany
The impact of political will on the global refugee crisis cannot be understated. While millions of people flee their homes in search of safety from violence and persecution, those states willing to accept refugees within their borders are decreasing, largely due to the devastating effects of toxic anti-refugee narratives. Recently, Germany has proven to be an example to the world in their efforts to accept refugees and migrants during times of crisis, making Berlin a fitting venue for this meeting as the World Refugee Council convenes to study the impacts on political will on the global refugee system and what steps can be taken to generate positive narratives towards refugees. The Council will hear several presentations on toxic narratives by civil society organizations, public opinion researchers, think tanks, journalists, German government officials and individual Councillors. Additionally, during this meeting, the Council will continue to consider bold and innovative ideas for improving political will and contributing to a global refugee system which treats refugees with dignity.
